About Me
Brandi Bird is an Indigiqueer Saulteaux, Cree and Métis writer from Treaty 1 territory. They currently live in Vancouver, the land of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh & Musqueam peoples.
Their chapbook I Am Still Too Much was published by Rahila’s Ghost Press in Spring 2019. Their first full-length poetry collection The All + Flesh was published by House of Anansi Press in Fall 2023. It was nominated for the 2024 League of Canadian Poets' Gerald Lampert Memorial Award, the 2024 League of Canadian Poets' Raymond Souster Award and the 2024 League of Canadian Poets' Pat Lowther Memorial Award, the 2024 Governor General’s Award for Poetry and won the 2024 Indigenous Voices Award for Poetry in English.
Brandi works as a freelance writer, workshop facilitator, and manuscript consultant. They have an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and are completing their first novel.
Brandi loves pop-culture and their favourite TV shows are Succession and Hannibal. They enjoy listening to the same song over and over again and learning how to play the guitar. They love their three ancient cats, Babydoll, Burt, and Etta, who all live in the stars now.
